Racing Updates

Since the last newsletter, the RC2 team did the Clinton 15K and the Newport 10K. Full reports below in earlier blog posts. Also check out the photos on this page. We had a great showing by our runners at both races! Next up will be the New Milford 5K (masters men and women) on June 18 and the Fitzgerald’s Lager Run (open men) on June 26 (note the mention of lager in the race name). The College Avenue Mile, scheduled for early June, was cancelled less than two weeks before the race. That race was scheduled to be the open men’s and women’s team championship. It will be replaced by the Midland Mile in August, which will now be a team race for all divisions. See you at the races!

Newport 10K

The Newport 10K always draws a big crowd of runners. There is an elite category, and prize money is awarded. Nearly 2,000 runners participated in the race this year. Rose City entered one men’s team in the open competition and placed 13th out of 23 teams. Several of our racers placed in the top 10 in their age groups as well. Although I was not present, I heard a rumor that several of our runners enjoyed an adult beverage at the NJ Beer gathering after the race. Thanks to everyone who participated! Next races are the College Avenue Mile on June 4th (open men and women), the New Milford 5K on June 18th (masters men and women) and the Fitzgerald’s Lager Run on June 26th (open men). See

The Clinton 15K is one of my favorite courses – partly because it’s almost in my backyard . It’s easy to go out too hard in this race; the first few miles are pretty flat and the hills don’t kick in until about mile 5, and then you have rolling hills for a couple of miles. If you put out too much energy in the first hal
