Belmar was quickly followed by the first cross-country race of the season on August 30 at Natirar. Natirar is a Somerset County park, and is a beautiful setting – when you don’t have to run up (and down) the hills! More than 330 runners turned out for another hot and humid August race. The course starts out across the grass, then is mostly on cinder and gravelly paths. There is a HUGE hill in the first mile (I heard someone say that hill climbed 210 feet), then runners sped down the hill, and then up another hill that seemed even bigger! Downhill again, around the field, up a little hill and down to the finish. A very challenging location for this cross-country race.
Welcome to Beth Nelson and Amy DeCola who ran their first races as part of the RC2 team!
Rose City entered a full suite of women’s teams in this race:
Open women: 12th place
40s women: 12th place
50s women – 9th place
60s women – 3rd place.
Thanks to Lee Brush, Cande Olsen and Marcia Postallian for their course marshaling/volunteering. Adam and Ava Clark and Amy DeCola’s family were also out on the course to cheer everyone on.
