The Fitzgerald’s Lager Run has several things in its favor: adult beverages, a track finish, adult beverages, a pretty course, and did I mention the adult beverages? The disadvantages? A 6:15 pm start on a Sunday night. Nope, it will never be hot and humid for this race (ha!). The thunderstorms did hold off and 1,165 runners completed the 3.1 mile course through the tree-lined streets of Glen Ridge. Many Glen Ridge residents were cheering street-side with hoses in hand (thank you!). I saw a few who had their happy hour set up on the front lawn; someone I was running near commented several times that he was going back to join the party after the race!
The race was the open men’s and women’s 5K championship. Rose City entered one men’s team, which placed 26th out of 34 teams.
Hoboken Brewing provided the much-advertised adult beverages after the race, and the area turned into quite the street party post-race. Thanks to Beth Nelson for cheering us on and taking some great photos (check out Facebook and the team webpage). Thanks to our runners for coming out on a hot and humid night!
