Main Street Half Maraton
Main Street Half Marathon, Aileen Flanagan
So how do you run 5 miles and still get credit for running a half marathon? You do it as a relay team. That’s just what Kathy Hale and I did on October 6 at the Main Street Half Marathon of Hunterdon. The race started at the old bridge in Clinton and ended at Liberty Village in Flemington. Since the Rose City racing team and the Hill Runners racing team decided at the beginning of the year to join together to race in team races, Kathy wore her Hill Runners singlet, and I wore my Rose City singlet. Several members from Hill Runners ran the race as well.
The race could be run as a half marathon or it could be broken into an 8 mile rolling hills segment and a 5.1 mile segment with a giant hill at the beginning and lots of downhill to the finish. There were 12 relay teams. Kathy and I took home 3rd Place in the relay team category!!! Our joint time was 2:02. As usual, John was there to play chauffeur and to cheer us on. Lynda and Lee Brush hopscotched between multiple cheering locations to make sure that we stayed motivated. Several Hill Runners ran the full course.
This race is truly a local race, starting in Clinton and ending in Flemington. The crowd support in both towns and in between was terrific. We would love to do this race again next year as a true joint effort between Rose City and Hill Runners. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could enter multiple relay teams with a member from Rose City and a member from Hill Runners? Keep it in mind and mark your calendars for October 2019!
Thanks to John Flanagan and Lynda Brush for the photos!
